Rock & Roll Farming

Oct 18, 2017

Tonight Rock & Roll Farming goes international all the way down to Taranaki in New Zealand to talk to Charlie McCaig.

We hear all about Charlie's background growing up as a typical town kid in South-East England, and the family's later move to rural Shropshire.

We talk about his DJ career in the bright lights of Shrewsbury, before his move down to Bristol where he met his future Wife Jody, a New Zealander, and their subsequent move to the other side of the World.

We then discuss how they got into dairy farming, initially with some relief milking, (Charlie had never been near a Cow before!) before progressing through the NZ dairy system, firstly with contract milking, right the way through to a 50/50 share milking operation with 1050 Cows, young stock and bulls, with a young family in tow, and a couple of prestigious award wins along the way. What a story!

We then talk about some of the big issues facing NZ agriculture, such as water quality, before going on to discuss some of the mental health issues we all face as farmers.

All this and plenty more!

Charlie's a lovely guy, and his story is genuinely inspirational for anyone wanting to get into farming. Check it out folks..
